August 28, 2012

Gordon Fisher, PhD The NORC is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Gordon Fisher from Postdoctoral Trainee in the UAB Obesity Training Program to Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Studies. Dr. Fisher trained under the mentorship of Dr's Barbara Gower and Gary Hunter, developing his research on better understanding the role of mitochondrial bioenergetics, reactive oxygen species, and markers of inflammation in the pathogenesis of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Fisher will continue his research, focusing on developing nutritional and exercise interventions to reduce the prevalence of metabolic and cardiovascular complications that are associated with obesity. He will continue to work in close collaboration with Dr's Gower and Hunter to identify metabolic phenotypes that increase risk of chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and polycystic ovarian syndrome, and trying to identify novel treatments that may prevent and/or better treat these diseases.
