Julia Gohlke, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences and a mentored member in the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), has been selected to receive a prestigious and highly competitive ILSI North America 2013 Future Leader Award.
The ILSI North America Future Leader Award, given annually to promising nutrition and food scientists, allows new investigators the opportunity to add to an existing project or to conduct exploratory research that might not receive funding from other sources or add to an existing project. Consideration is given to individuals proposing research in the areas of experimental nutrition, nutrition and toxicology, and nutrition and food science.
Based on the review panel’s assessment, Dr. Gohlke was selected to receive the 2013 award because of her leadership potential and her promising research in the field of nutrition entitled “Nutrition-toxicity interactions in Daphnia pulex, developing an alternative model organism for early life exposures.” The award provides $30,000 over a two-year period. Dr. Gohlke joins the ranks of no less than six other past or present UAB faculty members who have won this prestigious award including Drs. Sarah Morgan, Michael Goran, Tim Nagy, David Allison, Marie-Pierre St-Onge, and Jamy Ard.
