TaShauna U. Goldsby, PhD, postdoctoral fellow in the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), was recently accepted in to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Leadership & Diversity Training Program for 2014-2015. ACSM promotes diverse and inclusive participation within the fields of exercise science and sports medicine, and its Leadership & Diversity Program seeks to mentor and retain minority members. Dr. Goldsby will be attending the ACSM annual meeting—the most comprehensive sports medicine and exercise science conference in the world, with 12 topical tracks, including Exercise in Medicine—from May 26-31, 2014, in Orlando.
At UAB, Dr. Goldsby is pursuing her interest in community-based participatory research by conducting research related to obesity, cancer, and minority health. Her major research projects are focused on cancer prevention and control among African Americans in the Deep South, as well as exercise training interventions designed to address metabolic differences between African Americans and European Americans.
