This panel aims to share and discuss the benefits and challenges of being a mentor at UAB, as well as to share successful (and not so successful) mentoring strategies. The panel includes UAB faculty members with a range of mentoring experiences—including mentoring of graduate students, medical students, postdocs, and junior faculty. Panel members will share briefly their greatest challenges in mentoring, a few mentoring debacles, a few mentoring successes, and their "secret tips" for being a good mentor; followed by an open question and answer session with the audience. We are hoping this will stimulate discussion and thought about mentoring in our UAB community, as well as help to motivate faculty to build good mentoring practices and skills. We anticipate that this will be a useful session for UAB faculty who serve as mentors, as well as mentees.
SOPH & NORC faculty and fellows. Open to other members of the University, pending available space.
