My professional interests, as a UAB emeritus faculty member, are educational and program evaluation activities involving our Cancer Prevention and Control Training Program grant. This NCI funded program, now in its 21st year, involves active collaborations with Department of Nutrition Sciences (DNS) faculty, Drs. Tim Nagy, Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, and Sarah Morgan, and with Dr. John Waterbor (Epidemiology) and Dr. Renee Desmond (Preventive Medicine). My second area of focus is the NCI funded Cancer Research Education for Students (CaRES). Dr. John Waterbor is the PI, and CaRES involves numerous CCC scientists/preceptors who serve as mentors for our approximately 40 students engaged in short-term cancer research training experiences. Among other leadership responsibilities, I coordinate the formative and summative evaluation activities and the longitudinal follow-up studies for both training grants. I continue to serve, in an advisory capacity, to Dr. David Allison (PI) and the executive leadership team for our NIH-funded Nutrition and Obesity Research Center grant. Finally, I remain committed to providing advisory consultation to new and young faculty at UAB on career development and professional growth.
