Donna K Arnett MSPH PhD: Prof & Chair, Epidemiology and President, American Heart Association
Donna Arnett received her PhD in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's degree in biostatistics and epidemiology, and a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of South Florida. She has more than 19 years of experience in teaching and research in the area of epidemiology. Since 1994, Dr. Arnett has designed and taught graduate level courses in fundamental and advanced concepts of epidemiology, methodological and theoretical aspects of epidemiology, and grant writing. From 1998-2001, she served as Chair of the Epidemiology Master’s Degree Program at the University of Minnesota and as Director for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute funded Training Program in Cardiovascular Genetic Epidemiology. Dr Arnett leads the Seminar Series & teaches Grant Writing, a doctoral course that teaches fundamentals of writing grant applications. |

Dr Garvey obtained his MD degree, cum laude, from St. Louis University in 1978, and completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Barnes Hospital, Washington Univ, in 1981. He subsequently was a clinical fellow in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Univ of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Univ of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He subsequently held faculty posts at the Univ of California, School of Medicine, Indiana Univ School of Medicine, and from 1994 to 2003 was the Director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Medical Genetics at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Garvey has achieved international recognition for his research in the metabolic, molecular, and genetic pathogenesis of insulin resistance, Type 2 Diabetes, and obesity |

Edward E Partridge MD: Director, Comprehensive Cancer Center; Professor of Gynecologic Oncology; Evalina B. Spencer Chair in Oncology
Dr. Partridge received his M.D. from UAB and is certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. He serves as PI for the Deep South Network for Cancer Control, one of the large Special Populations Networks funded by the NCI. This project trains community men and women as Community Health Advisors and Research Partners in an effort to increase cancer awareness in the African-American communities of Alabama and Mississippi and to promote community-based cancer control research and clinical trials. Dr. Partridge is also the past president of the American Cancer Society. |
