UAB School of Public Health Awarded 2010 Pfizer Visiting Professorship in Obesity Award

Steven Blair, Ph.D, will be visiting UAB from February 14-16, 2011 as part of the Pfizer Visiting Professorship in Obesity program. Dr. Blair is a Professor at the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. His research focuses on the associations between lifestyle and health, with a specific emphasis on exercise, physical fitness, body composition and chronic disease. He has published over 460 papers and chapters in the scientific literature, and is one of the most highly cited exercise scientist, with over 24,000 citations to his work.

During his February visit, Dr. Blair will make multiple presentations with regards to obesity. Topics include Physical Inactivity: The Biggest Health Problem of the 21st Century; Fitness and Fatness: Which is More Important to Health Outcomes; and Exercise is Medicine. He will also meet extensively with UAB faculty and students to share information and research in their respective fields.

Dr. Donna K. Arnett, NORC Member and Chair of Epidemiology, was awarded the 2010 Pfizer Visiting Professorship in Obesity award.
