Dr. Zhang received her PhD from UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Then she did a postdoctoral at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Studies, followed by research track assistant professor at the Univ of Cincinnati. She is currently full professor in Department of Pathology.

Research Interests:

Dr. Zhang’s research focuses on the autophagy-lysosomal pathway which plays an important role in obesity and diabetes, as well as cancer, cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurodegenerative diseases. Her group developed new concepts linking mitochondrial dysfunction, autophagy and oxidative stress in cell death and survival, including the development of novel in vitro and in vivo approaches to assessing mitochondrial function, applying an integrated approach to assess cellular response to oxidative / nitrosative / ER stress, nutrient deprivation, perturbation of glucose metabolism, mitochondrial and environmental toxins.
